  1. These are my thoughts as I read through this chapter, will keep things straight in my mind when we get to discuss it as a group soon:
    • Narrow down a list of school wide goals (don't take on too much at once) pg 69
    • Survey kids, know their real life concerns and try to meet them pg 70 - 71
    • Formative assessments: ongoing, purposeful and customized to our school pg 75
    • Survey teachers (survey monkey?): How are we doing?; To what degree are we serving all the students?; What are we good at and where do we need help?
    • Find out about Title students: what is their knowledge base; learning styles; assistance needed; projected learning outcomes; (((how do these answers change my teaching))) pg 77
    • We “cannot afford to put a student down or treat them unfairly”! pg 82
    • Admin: Increase teacher responsibility; Value the teachers; Redesign teaching roles pg 84, 85
    • Build relationships in staff & students pg 86
    • Survey students (change 360 Survey to be something meaningful) pg 93
    • Treat students with respect to build relationships pg 93
    • Foster intellectual curiosity; emotional engagement; social bonding pg 94
    • (( Title 1 kids often come to class hungry – have healthy snacks on hand to eat)) pg97
    • Work to improve the climate in the school pg 100 – 105 (decide what to change and just do it)
